Nj Oil Tank Sweep

The Process of a Tank Sweep

  • First we will need enter the home. We will conduct a visual inspection inside the house. We will be looking for copper fuel lines and evidence in the flooring and or  holes in the foundation walls that a tank may have existed.
  • Next, we will begin inspecting the exterior of the home for a lines and pipes above and below the ground.
  • Then we will begin the sweep using our tank locator sweeping the exterior of the house and it's surroundings. This takes time, skill and patience.  If we feel we may have identified a buried tank we will mark the area in question and begin probing into the soil.
  • Probing down about two feet, and is hitting a solid structure consistently every two feet, then we may be hitting something that’s similar to a size of an oil tank, . The tanks will typically be three to ten feet in length and four feet in width. If this is what we identify with the metal probe, then it’s on to the next step.
  • If probing is inconsistant and with no other visual evidence of an underground tank, we can say it’s not an underground tank.
  • If the structure that we’re getting is a significant size, and we’re probing and getting consistent depths, we would recommend further evaluation by having an exploratory dig.
